Conduct Unbecoming, IS HERE (Barnes and Noble) and on Amazon! It is a book for military sexual trauma survivors written by a survivor. This book goes in depth about Post traumatic stress which is caused by MST, left untreated, and will be helpful for veterans suffering from other traumas as well. It goes into detail about the differences between PTSS and PTSD and the stages of recovery. YES! yes!
Something you won't read elsewhere! A self-help book on stages of recovery from PTSD!
My other website goes into detail about MST, but I will briefly cover some of the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. here. You have experienced a trauma or traumas outside the range of NORMAL HUMAN EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD BE MARKEDLY DISTRESSING TO ALMOST ANYONE
(ie serious threat to your life or fear for your life, serious threat of harm to your loved ones or friend's, seeing someone who is being or has been seriously injured or killed as the result of war, accident, or physical violence.Witnessing gore on the battlefield or being subjected to battlefield violence.(wounds, ieds, etc)
A touch on the arm or bad joke doesn't qualify here! If the above didn't happen; no PTSD or MST.Certainly rape, war, witnessing death and gore.
Next You also have to re-experience the trauma in some way, ie recurrent or distressing recalling of the event, nightmares of it,a sense you are reliving it at times,(we call these flashbacks in the most terrible form), these can even occur when you are wide awake.
You must also have at least 5 of several other symptoms that come from a group that I go into detail in my book.
There is a large chapter in my book on PTSS and PTSD caused by military trauma, rape, etc.
I use examples from my own life and try to take the psychobabble out so it is easy to understand.
you may find more about MST on my website http://www.Diane-and-Friends.com/ or purchase my book there.
Please spread the word and help get the word out by purchasing the book. For years I have maintained these
websites with no donations. Now you can give back by purchasing the book and buying an extra for your library or
Congressmember. This is not just my issue. Every day a woman dies at the hand of someone she knows. One in
three women and one in six men will be raped in the military and in life. What makes the military different is the
predators are being protected by commanders at this time and victims are fair game. We must educate our world as
to how these men and infrequently, women operate and prey on others and our children. Help me to do that by
buying this book today and buy an extra for someone you know. Remember, predators count on your silence and
ignorance. Lets refuse to be silent! God Bless! Some symptoms are difficulty falling or staying asleep. irritability or
outbursts of anger, trouble concentrating, exaggerated startle response ( my favorite, you jump for no reason because
someone speaks you didn't expect to talk), usually goes along with hypervigilence ( I'm scanning my area), then
there is the physiologic reactivity upon exposure to events that symbolize the trauma. You break out in a sweat in
traffic stops, a woman who is raped in an elevator can't ride elevators without breaking out in a sweat and breathing
hard.Panic(another favorite of mine)
I go into these symptoms in detail in my book.
If this isn't bad enough to drive you to the therapist or VA for help you have to have experienced these symptoms at
least a month. You can also experience these symptoms delayed over 6 months after the event occurred.
Some of us experienced all of these, the degree of symptoms and intensity, duration etc determines how ill you are.
The important thing to remember is: YOU ARE NOT CRAZY ALTHOUGH YOU MAY FEEL CRAZY. YOU WERE IN
A CRAZY SITUATION BEYOND YOUR CONTROL.
YOU DID NOTHING WRONG, THIS WAS OUTSIDE THE RANGE OF NORMAL HUMAN EXPERIENCE AND WOULD DISTRESS MOST PEOPLE.
DO NOT LET THE MILITARY'S TENDENCY TO MINIMIZE BOTHER YOU.TRY NOT TO MINIMIZE YOUR SYMPTOMS YOURSELF EITHER OR PRETEND THEY WILL GO AWAY.
THE LONGER YOU WAIT THE HARDER IT IS TO HEAL. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. MANY OF US HAVE GONE BEFORE. HELP IS AVAILABLE. IT CAN AND WILL GET BETTER, DON't GIVE UP. GET HELP. GOD BLESS.
If you don't get help you begin to despair and feel alone and have depression symptoms secondary to
these. Please get help! Don't despair! Help is available!
Thank you for your service. God Bless. Don't lose Hope! Diane
